Furgoni, Riccardo
For this star the value of NOMAD1 B-V is 0.52 and 2MASS J-K is 0.468. These are too high for a star Delta Scuti. However the star is immersed in the nebula NGC281 and nearby stars with a known spectrum show unusual B-V values. For example, the nearby star UCAC3 294-019371 has a NOMAD1 B-V of 0.31, but a spectrum B2V (usually with B-V -0.21): in this case the reddening is 0.52V. The other nearby star UCAC3 294-019584 has a NOMAD1 B-V 0.025, but a spectrum O9V (usually with B-V -0.30): in this case the reddening is 0.32 V. If the average reddening of these stars is 0.42V then VSX J005240.5+563550's B-V would become 0.10 instead of 0.52 with a probable spectrum A4, compatible with the delta Scuti class. The redness is therefore probably due to dust and gases that form the structure of the nebula NGC281.
