Uncertain identification. Downes et al. chart is centered at the position of Gaia DR3 4065603471127909504 (18 17 18.05 -23 38 27.3, J2000.0), G= 19.1; V= 19.5. That star seems to be too faint for a nova and it is 3" to the WNW of the star identified as FM Sgr in the GCVS (at 18 17 18.21 -23 38 28.2, J2000.0), which has G= 17.4; V= 17.8. Remark in 1927BHarO.843....1C says: "On plates taken with the 24-inch Bruce telescope, there is a star between the 16th and 17th mag.which may coincide with the nova. A star of the 14th mag. follows the faint star 3s and is in nearly the same declination.". No such a pair can be found in the area in Pan-STARRS1 images other than the two stars currently identified as the nova in the two sources mentioned above, but their B magnitudes are 4 mag. fainter than the values given in 1927BHarO.843....1C, so it is not possible to confirm the Downes et al ID. |
